Catawba College and SPIN – Hand in Hand to Provide an Esports Scholarship

in College Esports
April 5, 2021
  • Catawba College has received Stay Plugged IN’s support, according to a release by WBTV
  • Students that meet the requirements will receive a $2000 scholarship
  • The college performed impressively in the ECAC in 2020 and hopes to take it further

Catawba College in North Carolina has secured Stay Plugged IN’s partnership. The deal will provide scholarships to enthusiastic students.

SPIN Supports Catawba College to Provide Students with Esports Scholarship

According to a press release shared by WBTV, Catawba College has signed in a crucial partnership that will open the doors to an Esports scholarship. The learning establishment’s partner will be the esports recruiting platform Stay Plugged IN.

  1. With this partnership in place, students will be eligible to receive a scholarship of a minimum of $2000 if they meet the following requirements:
  2. Create an eSPIN.gg account
  3. Compete in a SPIN event
  4. Apply to Catawba College, be accepted, and attend/play sports for the college

Catawba College’s Esports Director Gidd Sasser commented on his excitement. He is looking forward to providing students with additional opportunities and growing Catawba’s college esports even further.

SPIN’s Director of Marketing Alex Cummings called the partnership between the two parties “a bridging of the gap between high school and college esports.” Cummings is sure that the current deal will provide many students with the opportunity for career development in esports.

A Look into the Two Parties

Catawba College is a private school in Salisbury, North Carolina. It’s a fairly small establishment with an average of 1300 students. However, Catawba College doesn’t cut corners when it comes to providing opportunities to its students. The school has a passionate and professional staff and access to a full range of equipment. It has over 70 programs, both minors, and majors. Catawba is in the second division of numerous traditional collegiate sports. Catawba has its very own completely equipped esports arena in the Cannon Student Center. However, the college has been seeking to strengthen its esports program as well and has moved in this direction by securing the partnership with Stay Plugged IN.

Stay Plugged IN is an e-recruitment platform for esports. It helps students orientate themselves in the world of esports, find the right mentorship, and strife towards esports careers. SPIN offers students the possibility to compete and learn from other students all across North America. SPIN also urges a healthy lifestyle and provides students with the possibility to learn more about graphic design, video editing, leadership, communication, and other tech and non-tech-related skills.

Catawba has a history of performing well in ECAC across many esports titles such as:

  • League of Legends
  • VALORANT
  • Overwatch
  • Fortnite
  • Rocket League
  • Yu-Gi-Oh!

We have no reason to doubt the scholarship, thanks to the partnership with SPIN, will nurture new talents and drive Catawba further forward into the collegiate leagues.

Collegiate leagues have continued developing despite these turbulent years. The University of Arizona has recently launched its own college program, and the Northern Kentucky University has opened a new state-of-the-art esports arena.
