  • Cloud9 won RES Eastern European Masters Fall after a close match against Spirit
  • This marks a comeback for the team, which had a dismal performance at Gamers8 last month
  • Both maps played finished with the teams having very close final scores

BLAST Fall Showdown Europe’s list of teams has been completed by Cloud9 who took the last berth after winning against Spirit on Anubis and Mirage.

Cloud9 Defeat Spirit

Denis “electroNic” Sharipov and company from Cloud9 have not had much success over the past couple of months. Fortunately for them, this changed earlier today. C9 currently reside in the final group of ESL Pro League Season 18 but are about to return to top-tier competition on LAN thanks to the team’s recent victory against Spirit at the RES Eastern European Masters Fall.

Cloud9’s road to victory started well, the team defeating Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov’s 1WIN twice on either side of a loss to Bad News Eagles. Meanwhile, the to-be opponents from Spirit had a similar path, but in the other group. They beat Monte in their opening and decider matches while losing to Eternal Fire in the middle of their run.

Interestingly, both teams traded opponents during the playoffs, C9 facing Eternal Fire, while Spirit took on Bad News Eagles. Both matches were closely fought, with Spirit’s success being partially decided thanks to some ping issues affecting the Kosovar team. Nevertheless, the two CS:GO teams were to meet at the finals.

How Did the Match Go?

The match started on C9’s pick of Anubis, but their opponents were the ones who took the early lead. Spirit quickly amassed a whopping 9-2 lead on the T side before Cloud9 finally stabilized thanks to multi-kill rounds from Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy. It was once again he who would prove vital for C9’s efforts during the second half, as he helped his team in two vital moments, helping them come back from 5-10 and 8-13 deficits. By this point, Spirit had seemingly run out of steam, despite being so close to victory, and allowed C9 to equalize the score and eventually overtake them at the last moment to pinch Anubis with a too-close-for-comfort 16-14.

Mirage was the second map, which ended up being equally as hard-fought as the first. Both teams remained close to each other in the first half with Myroslav “zont1x” Plakhotia and Denis “electroNic” Sharipov leading their respective teams in terms of kills. However, Cloud9 eventually took the lead and stormed off to a quick 15-9 lead.

But this match was going to show its last twist as when C9 was right on the cusp of victory, Spirit tightened up their defenses and won four rounds to reduce the gap. As it seemed this encounter might lead to a third map, however, Cloud9 woke up again and wrapped things up thanks to a triple kill from Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov.

Cloud9 took Mirage 16-13 and the match 2-0, earning a spot in the BLAST Fall Showdown Europe.
