  • C9 signed former NRG player Aidan “rocker” Grodin to its Apex squad
  • He comes in to replace Mac “Albralelie” Beckwith
  • This comes just weeks after rocker left NRG on a mutual decision

Cloud9 completed its Apex Legends roster by signing one of the best Gibraltars and flex support free agents on the market.

C9 Got Its Third

The Apex Legends Global Series ended just a month ago and now it’s time for teams to start making changes in preparation for the upcoming season. One such team is Cloud9 who announced the signing of former NRG player Aidan “rocker” Grodin, who now completes the organization’s Apex squad.

Cloud9 hopes that by signing rocker, its Apex Legends team will once again climb the ranks in the North American ALGS. Last year the duo of Zach Mazer and Paris “StayNaughty” Gouzoulis placed second in the 2021 NA ALGS Championship. Despite this, the organization decided to change up its squad for 2022 by replacing current OpTic member Logan “Knoqd” Layou with TSM’s Mac “Albralelie” Beckwith.

On paper, the newly formed trio was supposed to perform at the top, having some of the best mechanics in the world and an incredibly high ceiling. However, it seems that the chemistry between Zach, StayNaughty, and Albralelie never fully flowed as it should have. This resulted in the latter stepping away from C9 after the ALGS Year 2 Championship ended, leaving a void that rocker gladly filled in.

By signing the former NRG player rocker, the organization hopes it has found a proper match for the remaining two players.

Why Rocker Decided to Join C9

Cloud9 signed a player from a good pedigree. Rocker has been one of the best Gibraltars on the North American Apex scene over the past two years, while simultaneously having a lot of experience on other characters, providing C9 with much-needed flexibility. Functioning as an IGL and as a dedicated support player, rocker brings a rich portfolio of various skills to C9’s roster.

The former NRG player comes to Cloud9 just a few weeks after a mutual decision with his former employer to part ways. In a Twitlonger on July 2022, rocker explained that he was planning to leave his now-former organization regardless of his or its performance at the ALGS year 2 Championship.

“I always felt like we were a team that performs based on the “vibes”,” rocker wrote.” Whenever things didn’t go our way in tournaments it kinda just felt like we gave up.” He explained that despite his decision to leave, he enjoyed his time in NRG, thanking his fans for the support and his former teammates.

With rocker signing with Cloud9, one of the strongest organizations (at least on paper) got one of the best free agents. Only time will tell if C9 has made the right decision and if rocker will be able to deliver.
