Women of the eRena’s Sixth Edition Continues to Popularize Women in Esports

in Call of Duty
May 14, 2021
  • Esports social media eFuse will be hosting the sixth iteration of the Women of the eRena tournament together with COD team Minnesota Røkkr
  • The event’s new edition will be played in Call of Duty: Warzone
  • Women of the eRena 6 will be co-branded as a part of the V1SIONARIES project, focusing on women in gaming

The Women of the eRena tournament series by eFuse will be getting its next edition. With the help of Minnesota Røkkr, eFuse will be focusing on giving women in gaming a chance to shine.

Everything That Was Announced about the Event’s Format

Esports social media eFuse will be hosting the next tournament from its Women of the eRena series. This time it will be co-hosted with the help of the Call of Duty team Minnesota Røkkr and will feature 16 women-only teams competing in Call of Duty: Warzone.

The tournament was also announced on Minnesota Røkkr’s parent company Version1’s page and will be co-branded as a part of its V1SIONARIES project: an initiative to give talented female gamers exposure.

The sixth edition of Women of the eRena is slated for May 26 and will have a prize pool of $26,000. It will be live-streamed on the official Call of Duty Twitch channel with Røkkr’s Ashley ‘MiDNiTE’ Glassel as a host.

Women who want to become a part of Women of the eRena can sign up on eFuse’s official page until May 18. Only the first 30 teams to sign up will advance to the play-in event on May 19. Those who are interested should therefore hurry.

The tournament will be played in 16 teams of four where each team will have a captain who is a prominent Warzone influencer. Here are some of the announced captains, with more coming in the future:

  • Emma “EmZ” Rankin
  • Kalei Renay
  • Kathleen ‘Loserfruit’ Belsten
  • Smixie

Representatives Share Their Excitement about the Event

Smixie, the champion of the previous Women of the eRena Warzone and eFuse CoEd Cup, commented on her excitement for the event:

“Being a part of this series from Røkkr and eFuse means a lot to professional gamers like me, who have the talent and passion to contribute to the Warzone and gaming community. It’s great to see more organizations creating space for women in gaming.”

EFuse’s CEO Matthew Benson spoke about the underrepresentation of women in gaming. In his words, women are no less skilled, yet haven’t established a strong presence.

“By partnering with the inspiring leadership at V1, eFuse is extending our commitment to discovering female talent. We’re thrilled to welcome them as partners of the ‘Women of the eRena’ Warzone series as we boost our prize pool to $26,000 and elevate our event production. While universally true, but especially for women in esports – opportunities change lives.”

Speaking about Version1, its vice president of marketing and creative Annie Scott Riley also commented on the topic and about V1SIONARIES’ goals:

“They’re not invited to the ‘table,’ which in this case is the team, the sponsor deal, the tournament. We want to provide opportunities for women to lead, shine and win – so we established V1SIONARIES, an event series to do just that.”

Women have been in gaming for a while with even some prominent figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez playing regularly. However few of them pursue a career in esports. The industry has been working hard to change that. Initiatives like V1SIONARIES and the VALORANT Game Changers and Women of Misfits aim at bringing female gamers to the same level of exposure as their male counterparts.
