Toronto Ultra Renews Roster for 2020 Call of Duty League
As the Call of Duty League (CDL) has faced headwinds because of the lawsuit brought up against Blizzard, league franchise the Toronto Ultra has decided to retain its current lineup of players through 2023.
The organization is confident that the league will carry on and that its current player makeup is sufficient to see it through the next challenges in the competition. Ultra managed to place second in the CDL Playoffs in August and the team is one of few, along with Minnesota RØKKR and Atlanta FaZe to have chosen and stuck with the same players.
These three teams also won at least one big event throughout the 2021 season, demonstrating their ability to play well as a unit and dominate the multi-million league. Toronto did face some difficulties during the season and had to recruit Insight to replace Methodz as early as March, which allowed Ultra to quickly find a good pace of play and dive back into the ranking without losing more ground.
While the team failed up against Atlanta, they were some of the fiercest opponents that FaZe met in the 2021 run. Toronto made it to the CDL Playoffs finals after they eliminated Dallas Empire, and they lost to Atlanta with 5-3 in the series, but still demonstrated their ability to play high-paced Call of Duty and deliver great performance.
While no title was claimed, Ultra's brass has seen the merit of players and will now field them in yet another season. Both Insight and Cammy bring value to their team as they have different paces of play, but as AR players, they are also able to respond to opponents' compositions and change in pace quickly.
As the 2022 CDL start date is yet to be announced, Toronto Ultra definitely has something to be happy about as they are headed into a new opportunity to prove their mettle as the same combat unit.
