Players Find an Unorthodox Way to Kill Others Using Warzone 2’s Killstreaks

in Call of Duty
March 4, 2023
  • Warzone 2’s killstreak mechanic was being abused before the Season 2 update
  • However, it turns out the killstreak planes could still be dangerous in unexpected ways
  • One squad learned this the hard and spectacularly explosive way

Because players were abusing Warzone 2’s lootable killstreaks, Infinity Ward removed the inventory system, but this did not stop fans from finding new ways to break the game.

The Problem with Warzone 2’s Old Streak System

Killstreaks have been a staple of Call of Duty games forever, so it’s natural that players would make great use of them in the franchise’s latest iterations Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare II. The feature has often been used in creative ways to gain an advantage over the enemy, and Warzone 2 players have recently found even more exploits.

The game’s killstreaks work differently from those of MWII as they can be looted from fallen enemies, and as a result of this, players have been abusing the mechanic. The strategy they were using was to find a medium or large backpack and load them to the brim with killstreaks. This resulted in the final circles of the map getting absolutely obliterated when the skies open and rain death upon everyone while there is no place to run or hide.

Seeing this, developer Infinity Ward removed the backpack system altogether as part of the Season 2 update. But despite killstreaks and the weird combos not being as much of a menace as they used to be, players still find new ways to exploit the game mechanic, as one squad recently found out the hard way.

A New Way to Abuse Killstreaks?

Reddit user GrayAsh recently posted a video with the caption “I’m dying laughing, is this a kill streak or just bad luck with a map plane?” It shows his team flying over the map with a helicopter, only to be brought down from the skies by a random airplane smashing into their vehicle. With the plane so moving fast, the squad didn’t even know what hit them.

The post received a lot of attention with many discussing what had just happened. A lot came to the conclusion that GrayAsh’s squad was unluckily on the patch of another player’s killstreak. “You probably flew over someone’s target area before the warning showed up and got hit. I wouldn't even be mad if that happened to me,” one commenter joked.

“I think it was a precision airstrike,” another explained. “I saw it last second and was like that’s not going to, oh my god!” Many others joked that this is a rare but hilarious occurrence, sharing they have also come close to being hit by airplanes. “I came close a couple of times, but I always figured the jets didn’t have a hitbox. Now I know.”

It’s unknown if the player who called the plane intended to hit GrayAsh’s squad in the air, nor it’s an easy thing to replicate in-game. Despite that, this shows that perhaps one should now keep a better eye on the skies when flying in Warzone 2.
