The Endowment Announces Good News
The Call of Duty Endowment is a nonprofit organization supported by Activision Blizzard that aims to help unemployed veterans get back to work. Activision Blizzard announced that in 2021 the program helped over 16,000 veterans to find “meaningful employment”. This number helps the Endowment reach its goal of helping 100,000 veterans find jobs by 2024.
Activision’s Mike Lavigne said that last year was challenging for all because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “However, the Call of Duty Endowment rose to the challenge and did not let those challenges negatively impact the work we’re doing for the men and women who’ve served in the U.S. and UK armed forces,” he added.
The Endowment was helped greatly by many partnerships with CoD, like a digital item pack in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War that was sold to help raise funds for the organization. CoD: Warzone also had an in-game revival challenge and a takeover of the game’s connecting screen by CoD Endowment.
“Every veteran matters and the Endowment is proud to support traditionally underrepresented populations as part of our work,” Lavigne added. He also explained that 20 percent of the veterans the Endowment placed in meaningful employment were black, as compared to the 12 percent of the veteran population. “Women also saw success–19 percent of our placements were women, as compared to 10 percent of the total veteran population,” he added.
What the Endowment Does
The Call of Duty Endowment was co-founded by controversial Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. After visiting a veteran’s initiative in Los Angeles in 2007, Kotick decided that such projects required tangible resources veterans most need: jobs.
This realization led to the creation of the Endowment in November 2009, when Activision Blizzard launched the Call of Duty Endowment with a commitment to donate and raise millions of dollars for the cause. Its mission is to help veterans find good quality careers by supporting groups that prepare them for the job market and by raising awareness of the value vets bring to the workplace.
In 2017, the Endowment reached out to support veterans in the United Kingdom. To date, Activision Blizzard has donated more than $38 million to the Endowment. If you wish to support the Endowment’s cause, you can donate here.
