Confirmed: Infinity Ward Will Be in Charge of 2022’s Call of Duty

in Call of Duty
February 4, 2022
  • Activision Blizzard has confirmed that Infinity Ward will take responsibility for this year’s Call of Duty installment
  • The studio was previously reported to be working on a CoD project called “Project Cortez”
  • According to Blizzard’s announcement, the new franchise installment will be the best one yet

Activision Blizzard has confirmed the rumors that the Infinity Ward studio will be assuming responsibility for this year’s Call of Duty and Warzone updates.

Activision Blizzard Confirms the Rumors

Activision Blizzard has confirmed that Infinity Ward studio will be responsible for this year’s Call of Duty installment. This was first suggested by unconfirmed leaks that claimed the developer is working on a CoD title by the codename “Project Cortez.”

The official reveal was included in Activision Blizzard’s quarterly report and was confirmed by Infinity Ward on its official Twitter page.

A new generation of Call of Duty is coming soon.

Stay frosty.

— Infinity Ward (@InfinityWard) February 3, 2022

Infinity Ward called the project “a new generation of Call of Duty” and promised that more will be revealed soon. Fans are curious to see what the studio has in store. According to the leeks that suggested Infinity Ward will be in charge of Blizzard’s new title, the so-called Project Cortez will be a direct sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

As Infinity Ward will be assuming responsibility for this year’s Call of Duty: Warzone updates, some added that they expect the studio to bring some of the Modern Warfare 2 maps into the Warzone roster. However, that is yet to be confirmed.

The New Title Aspires to Be the Best One Yet

Activision Blizzard’s quarterly report spoke a bit about the next installment in the franchise. Other than confirming that Infinity Ward will indeed be taking responsibility for the Call of Duty universe, the parent company called it “the most ambitious” title in the franchise’s history. Blizzard promises that the new game will use “industry-leading innovation” to make the game the most appealing one yet.

As Infinity Ward is one of the most renowned studios to have ever worked on the CoD franchise, fans are pretty excited to see what the new title will bring. Despite fixing some of the franchise’s problems, 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard was met with mixed responses and failed to replicate the success of the previous franchise installments. Blizzard hopes that the upcoming Infinity Ward title will outsell its predecessor and will improve trust in the company in the wake of the recent controversies.
