Call of Duty League Warily Proceeds With the LAN Championship Weekend Plans

in Call of Duty
August 12, 2021
  • The Call of Duty League confirmed it would be hosting the Championship Weekend live with an audience
  • The event will have reinforced measures against the spread of the COVID-19 virus
  • Despite the measures, people should remain careful when visiting

CDL’s plans for the Championship Weekend remain unchanged, but the measures against COVID-19 will be strict.

CoD Championship Weekend Proceeds with the LAN Plans with Increased Vigilance

The Call of Duty League announced that its plans for the Call of Duty Championship Weekend 2021 remain unchanged: the event will be held live with crowds in attendance. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament staff will be extra careful to fully uphold the safety measures.

The CDL released a statement on its official Twitter page where it announced what the said measures would be. Other than the mandatory masks for everyone present, the audience will be required to either show proof that they’ve been vaccinated or at least show a negative PCR or antigen test that was made within 72 hours of the esports event.

2020’s edition of the event had to be played online because of the raging COVID-19 pandemic. However, it seems that this year the CDL prefers to refrain from cutting corners.

People who are interested in going to see professional esports athletes live can inform themselves on the official site of the Call of Duty League.

A Spectacular Event Awaits

The Call of Duty Championship Weekend is scheduled to occur between August 19 and August 22 and will take place in the Galen Center in Los Angeles. The four-day event will feature a big prize pool of the impressive $2.5 million.

Out of that total, the winner will grab $1.2 million, with second and third place receiving $650.000 and $300.000 respectively.

The Call of Duty Championship Weekend will open with a match between Dallas Empire and Minnesota RØKKR.

The Championship Weekend will be the third big Call of Duty LAN event for 2021 and the second to be played with a live audience.

While the return to LAN and the live crowds sure sounds exciting, both players and visitors should be extra careful on the venue. On the first major Call of Duty event that allowed for a live audience, the Call of Duty League Stage Five Major, numerous players got the virus.

Hopefully, the CDL will be extra careful with following the COVID protocols.
