More than 15 000 guests are expected to come to the Call of Duty League 2024 Major 1, which will be held in January in Boston.

Boston Breach to Host CDL Major 1

We are just a few weeks away from the start of the newest season of the Call of Duty League for the 2024 season and preparations are being made. Activision the League is operated by Activision, the company often partners with other entities that host individual events. One of these is Oxygen Esports which recently announced that its CDL franchise Boston Breach will be the host of the first Major tournament in the 2024 season.

Boston Breach will host a CoD League Major tournament for the second time in two years, having first done so earlier in 2023 by being home to the second Major of the last season. The tournament will take place at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, MA, between January 24th and 28th, 2024. It is expected more than 15 000 guests will attend the first large LAN tournament of the 2024 CDL season throughout the weekend.

To prepare for the tournament, Boston Breach has partnered with Live-Nation, a company well-known for organizing large public events. However, Boston Breach don’t seem happy with hosting just this one Major, as they will also host the Call of Duty Challengers tournament. It will see 96 Call of Duty teams from around the globe compete for the piece of the $75 000 prize pool. The tournament will take place at the Citizen’s House of Blues Boston, as opposed to the venue of the first Major.

More About the Franchise

Boston Breach’s hosting of the first CoD League Major tournament for the 2024 season could be seen as yet another step in parent company Oxygen Esports’ establishment in the CDL. The organization merged with Boston Uprising in 2021 and claimed the Call of Duty League slot was left vacant after another merger, that of OpTic Gaming and Envy Gaming, happened the same year. Despite already hosting a Major and preparing another, however, Boston Breach’s biggest achievement to date was third place at the CoD League 2022 Stage 2 Major.

However, this does not stop the host city itself from being an important spot for esports. “Oxygen Esports and the Boston Breach have established Boston as a destination for esports and this tournament fortifies our position in this ever-growing industry,” said Murph Vandervelde, Oxygen Esports President and Co-Founder. “Being the largest esports event that has ever been hosted in Boston, diehard fans and those curious about the world of professional esports can expect a weekend full of excitement and unique experiences.”
