Pokémon GO has been out for almost eight years and over that long time it has cemented itself on the mobile gaming market. With its revolutionary augmented reality gameplay it allowed players to physically walk around the world to reach locations in order to catch Pokémon and train at Pokémon gyms. Augmented reality games have been in the works for a long time before the title’s release, but it’s safe to say that Pokémon GO spearheaded the genre, considering its popularity.

However, as most popular games out there, this one has also accumulated a slew of third-party software aimed at giving players the edge in gameplay. There have been plenty of hacks developed for the game, all of which vary in effectiveness, legitimacy, and usefulness. Some allow users to automatically catch the Pokémon, automatically check for shinies, and even move in the in-game world without moving from the comfort of their sofa.

It should be noted that many, if not all, of these modifications, are frowned upon by Niantic, the developers of Pokémon GO. Often, using such modifications can result in bans. That being said, a lot of players are still using Pokémon GO hacks despite the danger. Some are safer than others, but the devs still don’t want these modifications in their games.

Spoofing

Perhaps the most popular Pokémon GO hack in use is spoofing. The game uses the real-life location of players to determine if they are close enough to a PokeStop to spin it for supplies or close enough to a gym to start a battle. To determine the location, your device uses GPS meaning that if one finds a way to trick the game, they can “move” in-game without actually doing so IRL.

Interestingly, spoofing often does not involve modifying the core game itself, but rather it just makes it “think” you are at a different location compared to your IRL one. That being said, there are some ways that Niantic can figure out you are cheating, despite not changing anything with the game itself. Be mindful that you may still be banned by spoofing your location. But to do so in the first place, you will need some specialized tools. Below, we have listed the best ones you can use:

  • PGSharp –  This is one of the oldest Pokémon GO hacks for Android spoofers on the market. It is relatively easy to use and provides coordinates to “teleport” to, essentially tricking your device that you are close to a PokeStop or Gym. However, it being an older tool means that Niantic knows about it and keeps an eye for players instantly teleporting hundreds of miles across the world. Although easy to install and use, PGSharp also sees a somewhat high ban rate for the aforementioned reasons.
  • Surfshark VPN – If you’ve been on YouTube lately you might have come across ads for this and other VPN providers. Capable of changing your IP address to your faked GPS location, Surfshark VPN can greatly lower the risk of being caught hacking, compared to the previously mentioned method. In addition to using the VPN for Pokémon GO, you also gain access to all the other web browsing benefits you get from it. However, some users have noted that Surfshark limited P2P servers with comparatively poor speeds, which can affect the functionality of some of your apps.
  • UnicTool TailorGo – You may want to use Pokémon GO hacks for iPhone so this option might be the best for you. UnicTool TailorGo is arguably the most efficient way to spoof your location on iOS as it enables you to change your GPS location to anywhere instantly. The tool also allows users to pause the spoofing feature at any time with the click of a button, so they can return to their natural location without too much hassle. Although the chance of being found out by the game devs and banned is still present with this tool, users have reported that it is relatively low. That being said, keep in mind that there is always the possibility so use UnicTool TailorGo at your own risk.

Auto Catching

Obviously collecting Pokémon is the core of the game but catching them can be somewhat tedious. Niantic prefers trainers to throw and catch the Pokémon manually but this can be quite a grind. For this reason, people have created auto catchers, which facilitate players doing this. Interestingly, these are not technically hacks as they do not modify the game in any way and don’t trick it like the aforementioned spoofing method.

One very popular auto catcher is Pokémon Go Plus Auto Catch is a verified device that is the size of a large keychain and can be easily used. It connects to your device and your game and allows you to spin a PokéStop and catch Pokémon. A light on the device tells trainers what’s happening. The auto catcher makes it much more convenient and quick for the players to play the game as it mitigates having to constantly look at your phone.

Another device that’s similar to Pokémon Go Plus Auto Catch is Go-tcha. This one is worn on the wrist and automatically catches Pokémon as well as spin stops. It’s more advanced as it features an LED screen to let wearers know exactly what is going on.

However, we all know that the Pokémon are supposed to be caught by throwing a Pokeball at them. The devices we’ve mentioned so far are not designed like the iconic in-game gadget, so if you want a bit more immersed in Pokémon GO, you may want to check out Poké Ball Plus. As the name suggests, the device is indeed shaped like a ball and it features one button where you would find the latch on the in-game item. Poké Ball Plus connects to your device via Bluetooth, allowing you to spin PokéStops to catch things by clicking the aforementioned button.

No matter which device you choose to utilize, they all have one important thing in common – they allow users to have a better awareness of their surroundings as they don’t require people to constantly look at their phones’ screens. This has the benefit of facilitating catching other Pokémon as well as simply knowing where they are going.

Shiny Scanners

One of the greatest achievements one can do in any Pokémon title is getting a shiny. Pokémon GO probably has the easiest way to get these rare monsters compared to other games in the franchise, but that still doesn’t mean it’s a simple feat. Finding one is pretty tedious because players have to go out and click on every single one they see and then leave if it’s not shiny, which it usually is not.

To aid with this, some mainline games have the aptly named shiny scanner. It shows where a shiny Pokémon is on the map, making it much easier for players to actually find them. For example, when players run past a shiny Buizel in Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet, they’ll instantly know.

Unfortunately, this feature does not exist in Pokemon GO. Although catching a shiny once you see one isn’t too difficult, finding it in the first place is where a lot of the trouble lies. Because of this, some players have created Pokemod, an app that gives players access to various quality-of-life features that make things much more convenient for players.

One of these features is a shiny scanner which works in the same way as in the one found on some mainline Pokémon titles. With it installed, the Pokémon GO hacks will show shiny monsters on the map. You still have to encounter and then catch them, which can be easier said than done but at least it prevents you from having to click and exit each Pokémon on the map.

Additionally, this shiny scanner doesn’t just alert players to shiny Pokémon. Ditto is a Pokémon that can transform into certain ones that spawn in the game. The scanner will show them as a Ditto, so players can catch them if they want.

Unfortunately, this feature isn’t one of the Pokémon Go Hacks for iOS, because, at the time of writing of this article, it does not work on the iPhone version of the app.

IVs Reveal

Even if you don’t get a shiny Pokémon you can still find another one with decent stats. There are two aspects of a Pokémon – CP (combat power), and IVs (individual values). Each individual Pokémon is assigned CP at capture, which indicates how well that particular Pokémon will perform in battle. Meanwhile, IVs are a hidden set of stats that are randomly applied to each Pokémon upon receiving or capturing them. They are part of what makes each Pokémon unique from another.

However, while CP can be boosted by paying stardust and candy, IVs stay the same. They represent the underlying aspect of how truly viable a certain Pokémon is. Each aspect, health points, attack, and defense, has an assigned value from 1 to 15. If a Pokémon has 15s across the board, it is a perfect Pokémon, also known as a Hundo (for 100% of IVs). Following this same logic, a Pokémon with stats such as 15, 15, 14 would be a 98%.

Usually, this percentage isn’t visible on an encounter, meaning that players don’t have enough information on them and they end up losing time in trying to get them. For this reason, some Pokémon Go hacks show the IVs and percentages of a monster before being caught. Here are some of the best ones out there:

  • Poke Genie – This is an app that is available on both iOS and Android but works somewhat differently in each system. In the iOS version, you have to upload a screenshot of your Pokémon and then the app will accurately check the monster’s IVs. The Android version is even more accessible. It lets you check IVs from within the app with a simple tap of a button.
  • Calcy IV – Yet another app that works based on pictures of your Pokémon. However, this one is an overlay app which means it runs in parallel with your game without interrupting it, meaning it’s much easier to use as it doesn’t require manual input. When you spot an exciting monster, tap the overlay to see its full stats, including DPS, the cost to level it up, and many more.
  • GoIV – This is another popular IV calculator. However, this one spent significant time outside of the Play Store and only recently came back. It’s an open-source solution with some decent features. In addition to showing you the monster’s IVs, it also has a renaming function, and it can scan your Pokémon for exporting. The app also comes with no ads and is completely free.

While we tried to make a brief overview of the best Pokemon GO hacks out there, we should remind you again that all of these are frowned upon by the game’s devs. These are not legitimate ways of playing and you run a varying risk of getting your account banned if you are found out of using them.

However, there are still some undeniable benefits to using these methods. If you want to complete the Pokédex, then spoofing is extremely useful. Alternatively, if you want to find shinies, the scanner is very helpful. Just be aware of the risks involved and decide for yourself if they are worth the potential prize or not.
