- The popular spirits brand revealed two thematic limited-edition whiskey bottles
- A short video featuring Dota 2 characters was also released as part of the collaboration
- Ballentine’s also recently became one of Tundra Esports’ Dota 2 team’s sponsors
To celebrate Dota 2’s tenth-year anniversary, Valve has partnered with popular spirits brand Ballentine’s to reveal a China-exclusive limited edition set of themed Scotch whisky bottles.
Valve and Ballentine’s Announce Collaboration
Summer 2023 saw Dota 2 celebrate its tenth-year anniversary. To mark the occasion, there were many events that players could take part in as for about two weeks in August, players could earn various in-game prizes. When players won a game, they were granted a commemorative treasure containing special items tied to each of Dota’s storied years.
Despite the event already being finished a couple of months ago, Valve still has some unique ways to commemorate the occasion. Recently, the company has announced it has partnered with popular Scotch whisky brand Ballantine’s to reveal a limited-edition series of whiskey bottles fashioned after a Dota 2 theme.
The two types of bottles are blue and red, embodying the Radiant and Dire sides of the Dota 2 map and feature various characters from the game. Unfortunately for many fans, the collaboration is China-exclusive, so acquiring a bottle outside the region will be difficult and would likely be rather expensive as the items would probably be sold at high aftermarket prices.
Ballentine’s Continues Expansion in Gaming
That being said, the collaboration is a testament to the growing importance of the Chinese gaming market and highlights how popular the game has become in the region. “Exclusive to China, we are also dropping two limited-edition Ballantine’s Finest x Dota 2 bottles featuring iconic characters from the game’s universe including Juggernaut, Lina, Monkey King, Marci, and Brewmaster,” a statement from Ballantine’s reads.
To further mark the occasion, the spirits producer also released a short video that showcases a cast of iconic Dota 2 characters who embark on an epic journey to obtain a dram of Ballantine’s whiskey.
Perhaps the partnership with Valve should come as no surprise to anyone, as Ballentine’s has recently been expanding into the world of the gaming industry. The company partnered with the British esports organization Tundra Esports for The International 2023, the biggest Dota 2 event of the year, and was featured on the team’s jersey for the tournament.
Additionally, earlier this year, the spirit company also partnered with BLAST Premier, one of the biggest organizers of Counter-Strike 2 tournaments. Ballentine’s was one of the sponsors of the Paris Major, the concluding Major in the world of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
All of these collaborations are a firm statement that Ballentine’s will continue to deepen their involvement into the world pf professional gaming.
