Aurora Emerge Victorious
We are just a few days away from the grand finals of the $250,000 Roobet Cup 2023 and teams are duking it out to secure a spot at the top. However, it was the end of the run of BIG, one of the event’s favorites, as the German team fell 0-2 against Aurora earlier today.
The Russian side now continues forward as they secured a spot in the Roobet Cup’s semi-finals which will be played on November 1. The victory did not home easily, however, as both maps played finished with a small difference, while one of them even extended to overtime.
BIG were definitely the favorite coming into the match but surprised everyone by playing a somewhat inconsistent game. They started both maps weakly and struggled on their offensive halves. Their opponents also played inconsistently and made many mistakes of their own, but eventually, the Russian side managed to struggle forward enough to win the match.
Here’s a Breakdown of the Match
The game started on Ancient, BIG’s choice, who also started on the T-side. However, they could not exploit their advantage as Aurora posted a decent defense in the first half. By the time the sides switched, the Russian team had amassed a large 9-3 advantage.
However, Aurora would not have an easy Ancient after all as BIG’s Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz stepped up during his team’s pistol round to turn the tides of battle. This, coupled with Aurora’s wasting of money in the early rounds, helped BIG to minimize the gap in the score, which eventually led to overtime. However, BIG did not have enough power to finish off Aurora, who on the other hand finished Ancient with a 16-14 after one final push.
Nuke was a similar story, with BIG, who recently signed a big deal with ENDX, started off poorly. this time on the defensive half, allowing Aurora to get a stable 5-0 lead. The Germans finally found their footing and closed the gap in the score to force a tied half.
When the sides switched, BIG continued their momentum to get the score to 10-7 in their favor. However, Aurora got back on track thanks to a half-buy round which allowed Aleksandr “KENSI” Gurkin and Evgeny “Norwi” Ermolin to start carrying the team. BIG once again ran out of ideas on the offense, which allowed Aurora to take the lead and finish Nuke with a 13-10 score.
BIG is now out of the Roobet Cup, while Aurora will face the winner of the quarter-final match between Monte and Movistar Riders.
