AT&T Unlocked Games‘ second season is approaching and six finalists will have the opportunity to win a large sum of money to help develop their game.
AT&T’s Competition for Female Devs
With more and more women moving into the field of esports, there is also an increase in female game developers. AT&T Unlocked Games are a competition for a sponsorship, whose aim is to provide women and women-led development teams to fund their videogame projects. Each participant has the chance to win $100 000 to fund their game.
AT&T had a similar competition last year, with a prize pool of $50 000. Six female developers from around the USA were selected to present their games to a panel of industry experts in an effort the win the grand prize.
This year’s AT&T Unlocked Games will be hosted by streamer Brooke “BrookeAB” Ashley. According to her, the competition aims to educate women on their knowledge and resources.
Female game developers can enter the competition if they meet certain requirements. First, they must be 18 years of age and be legal residents of the United States. Second, they must provide a three-minute video introducing themselves, their team, and a backstory of their game.
How Will the Winners Be Chosen?
The above-mentioned requirements are just the things needed for participation. To actually win the prize, competitors must meet certain criteria. Firstly, the participants must also provide a seven-minute-long gameplay video and a budget, explaining how they will spend the $100 000 prize if they win it.
The judges will score the game based on overall visuals, audio design and gameplay. The game’s mechanics and the story will also play a part in the jury’s decision. The submitted projects will be graded on a scale of 1-10 to determine the grand prize winner.
The judges will announce six finalists on January 28, who will den participate in a live stream on March 15 on AT&T’s Twitch channel. There, the finalists will showcase their games to a jury called “End Bosses,” who will choose the winner and a runner-up. Viewers will also be able to vote for their favorite participant, who will be awarded a Gamer’s Choice title. Those teams, who want a chance to win the grand prize, can sign up for the competition through January 7.
