  • The new season of the CDL is starting with thrilling matches
  • Atlanta FaZe took an early lead thanks to Callium and his amazing 2.14 K/D
  • Thieves traded maps with FaZe, but eventually lost with a 2-3

Atlanta FaZe has been eager to take revenge on the L.A Thieves since the latter knocked them out of the 2022 CDL season and their last match was the perfect opportunity for that.

FaZe Go Up Against The Reigning Champs

It may be the end of this year, but it is also the start of the 2023 Call of Duty League season, and it has already gone off with a bang after Atlanta FaZe brought down CDL champions Los Angeles Thieves in a thrilling five-game series. It was the team’s first victory in the current season and it could not have been any sweeter as it was the team’s revenge for when Thieves claimed the 2022 CDL season with a 5-2 victory over FaZe. Although this rematch was not to the scale of their previous loss against Thieves, it’s still refreshing to see FaZe bounce back after a loss at the hands of the Boston Breach in the season’s opener.

The match started with a win for FaZe at Hotel Hardpoint. Crucial for that was Cellium, last season’s MVP, who finished the map with a 30-14 statline for an amazing 2.14 K/D. aBeZy also contributed to FaZe’s win with his 29 kills to 20 deaths, helping the team end the map with a stable 250-216.

Los Angeles Thieves would not let FaZe’s win slide, however, as the reigning champs took the next map, Hotel Search and Destroy. The team actually went negative in slaying during the map but managed to pull out the victory in Round 11. The map finished with a large discrepancy in the slaying column, with Kenny being the only player for L.A. to go positive on the map with a meager 9-8 stat line. The series’ next two maps were Al Bagra Fortress Control and Hydro Hardpoint, which the two teams traded by scores of 3-2 and 250-169, respectively.

The Teams Enter the Final Map

With the overall score standing at 2-2, both teams had everything to play for. Thieves had the upper hand from the start of the final map, which was a Search and Destroy. Considering the team knocked off FaZe multiple times, including in the Grand Finals of the CDL Championship, thanks to the former’s skill on the game mode, FaZe was in for a tough fight.

However, the team stunned everybody when it reached out to a fast 5-2 lead early on in the map. The Thieves managed to get back a round, but Simp, Cellium, and SlasheR’s performance was too much for them. The trio went positive and with Cellium leading the way with a 9-4 scoreline, FaZe took the map and the game with a final score of 3-2.

FaZe’s next match will be against the Las Vegas Legion on December 10, while the Thieves will face the Florida Mutineers on the same day.
