Professional Dota 2 organization Team Aster has donated a hefty chunk of their 2021 winnings to help with relief efforts in Henan province and its capital Zhengzhou which suffered massive floods.

Team Aster Helps with Relief Efforts in Henan 

As Team Aster continues to define competitive Dota 2 in China and to pose as a strong challenger for The International 10, the team is also looking to contribute to its local communities. In the wake of China’s Henan province floods, the organization has decided to donate $92,000 to the victims and for relief efforts in the region.

Aster performed well during the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit and managed to amass over $185,000 in tournament winnings throughout the year, making them one of the more successful teams in the competition. They also competed in the i-League this season, posting one success after another, overcoming proven opponents such as PSG.LGD and Vici Gaming.

Now, Aster has a shot at winning a sizable chunk of The International 10’s prize pool, which soars to over $40 million today. The team said that it couldn’t stand by and watch idly as fellow countrymen and women suffered. In an official statement cited by Dot Esports, the company said: “After deliberation with the club staff and the Dota 2 division’s players and coaches, we will make a disaster relief donation of the final bonus from i-League in the name of Team Aster.”

Esports Org’s Set Example for Humility 

The present gesture of goodwill is indicative of the role esports can play in local communities and beyond. Team Aster is not the most successful team in the history of the country’s Dota 2 community, but they are surely one of the strongest contenders. 

In the past two years, Team Aster has amassed over $427,371 in various tournaments winnings with the squad competing exclusively in Dota 2. Aster has been making titles as one of the more generous teams out there, previously donating $30,000 to the Wuhan Charity Federation as a response to the COVID-19 outbreak, which paralyzed economic activity globally and put a strain on health care systems across the world. 

The Henan floods displayed millions of people and impacted the province’s capital, Zhengzhou, badly. Earlier this year, Krafton, the company behind PUBG Mobile and the game’s unique Indian re-release, Battlegrounds Mobile, donated $200,000 towards COVID-19 relief efforts.
