Famous MMO Twitch streamer and critic Asmongold had positive things to say about Riot’s upcoming MMO after watching some cinematic trailers.
Asmongold Comments on Upcoming MMO
Over the past few years, Riot Games has seen immense growth outside of its flagship game League of Legends. The company has created other world-renowned titles like VALORANT and Legends of Runeterra, and even expanded its reach into TV, with shows like the critically acclaimed Arcane. However, Riot has not forgotten its roots lay in League of Legends, and the company is currently developing an MMO RPG set in LoL’s world.
As fans are getting more hyped with every bit of information Riot releases, popular Twitch streamer Asmongold had many positive words to say. The Twitch star is considered an authority on MMOs, considering his rise to popularity was spearheaded by him playing titles like World of Warcraft.
In a recent stream, Asmongold named a few key features that according to him, Riot will have “everything that they need to succeed.” He pointed out that League doesn’t have too much lore, which will give Riot a lot of space for maneuver. He also mentioned that with Riot Games’ popularity and size, the company has a huge fanbase as well as finances to draw upon.
“They [Riot] have a tremendous, massive existing fanbase, they have apparently gigantic f*cking world…it’s a huge company, they can spend a tremendous amount of money,” Asmongold said.
Another thing Asmongold mentioned as a plus for Riot Games is the company’s positive track record as a developer. He pointed out Riot’s success with LoL and VALORANT, all while avoiding pay-to-win strategies, which Asmongold likes to berate other developers about.
Finally, the streamer mentioned Riot’s ability to generate hype for its products. He compared it to what Blizzard is managing to do, saying it’s mammoth when compared to the next WoW expansion. Riot’s “The Call” cinematic trailer has gained more than 128 million views over the past seven months, while the trailer for WoW’s next expansion, Dragonflight, only has 2 million.
Riot Founder Tryndamere Responds
Asmongold’s positive comments have reached the ears of the founder and boss of Riot Games Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill. He used the opportunity to reach into Asmongold’s fan base by hailing him on Twitter, commenting he should watch Arcane, Riot’s Emmie-nominated animated TV series set in the world of LoL.
Promoted by the comment, Asmongold responded with an “Okay! I have to see it now.”
And while the Twitch star is watching the TV series, fans are left wondering about the upcoming MMO. Riot has yet to announce a release date or even what the game would be called.
