  • Respawn Entertainment assisted Lightspeed & Quantum Studios in the development of Apex Legends Mobile
  • EA, Respawn’s parent company, hopes to replicate the success of PUBG Mobile – one of the best mobile esports titles to date
  • PUBG Mobile was also developed by Lightspeed & Quantum Studios

EA and Respawn Entertainment chose Lightspeed & Quantum Studios as the developer of Apex Legends Mobile, thanks to the studio’s great work on PUBG Mobile.

Apex Legends Mobile Was Developed by the Same Studio as PUBG Mobile

An analysis by Wasif Ahmed, a journalist for the esports news outlet Dot Esports, compared the similarities and differences between two of the best mobile battle royale titles – Apex Legends Mobile and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile. While the games differ greatly in their setting and gameplay, the two happen to be produced by the same talented studio – the Lightspeed & Quantum Studios, owned by Tencent.

True to its name, the studio truly works at the speed of light – with Krafton’s approval, the speedy developers took no more than four months to complete PUBG Mobile – a game that has captured the hearts of thousands of mobile gamers across the world. Available on app stores in numerous countries, PUBG Mobile is just as popular as its PC counterpart.

Apex Legends Mobile was released on March 5 this year and is yet to replicate the success of its PC counterpart. While Apex Legends, developed by Respawn Entertainment, continues to cement itself as a top esports title, Lightspeed & Quantum’s Apex Legends Mobile still has a long way to go. As of now, the latter has a 4.2 score on the App Store.

Apex Legends Mobile Is Yet to Achieve Significant Successes

It is still too early to say whether Apex Legends Mobile will be a success or not. The game has been out for less than two weeks and, as other games have shown, patches and fixes can dramatically improve or worsen a game’s rating. It should be noted that Apex Legends Mobile has a different publisher than PUBG Mobile, with the former being published by EA and the latter by Tencent.

Furthermore, Apex Legends Mobile is currently available in just 10 countries, with a global release scheduled for later in 2022. It is interesting to see how Apex Legend Mobile will fare and whether it will become the same mobile esports powerhouse that PUBG Mobile has grown to be.

EA, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, strategically chose Lightspeed & Quantum for the development of the game’s mobile version. EA knew that the developers behind PUBG Mobile will not cut corners and will make a product of high quality. Respawn Entertainment assisted Lightspeed & Quantum in the development, hoping to make Apex Legends Mobile the best game it can be.

Tencent has grown to be the most reputable name when it comes to the development of mobile games. The company’s studios have successfully brought some of the most beloved PC titles to mobile, helping the mobile gaming scene flourish.
