Last Year’s Abandoned Event and Competitive Season to Follow

Activisio has announced that a new global competitive event in Call of Duty: Mobile is in the works. The event will come later this year.

This championship will follow the cancellation of the 2020 World Championship sponsored by Sony. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament that was supposed to take place in Los Angeles, was called off. The $750,000 prize pool was instead distributed between seven of the teams that had qualified.

Activision has not yet revealed details about the upcoming competitive season of Call of Duty: Mobile but will likely do so soon.

This news follows a trend of mobile games rising in popularity among the ranks of esports. PUBG Mobile has reached a billion downloads, and League of Legends: Wild Rift has had numerous tournaments in the pipeline.
