  • Activision Blizzard will be dismissing 50 people from its esports department
  • The action is a part of the company’s goal of focusing more on online events rather than live ones
  • Tony Petitti assures that everything is calculated and it’s for the best

Activision Blizzard has reduced the number of employees at the esports department as part of the restructuring, focusing on online events.

Activision Blizzard Are Leaning Towards Online Events

Fifty people will have to part with their posts at Activision Blizzard. This was announced by the company’s president of sports and entertainment Tony Petitti who said the action is taken with an internal restructuring in mind. Apparently, the company seeks to expand more on the online aspect and tone down on live events.

Petitti quickly added that his company won’t be completely forsaking all live events but will focus more on its competitive leagues, such as the Overwatch League and the Call of Duty League. The president of sports and entertainments mentioned that the team learned a lot last year and will now do their utmost to apply their experience with the leagues’ growing success in mind. Petitti said that he is optimistic about the prospects of further developing the CDL and the OWL

In fact, the ongoing league in Call of Duty is currently on the rise in popularity which shows that Petitti wasn’t lying about the company’s growing experience.

The company promises that the discharged employees will be well-informed and given severance packages. This seems to be a slight change of philosophy as Activision Blizzard kept almost all the esports staff during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the current reforms seem to be necessary for better usage of resources and further growth of the company in the right direction.

From our 5 star review…

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
